Bottom Paint
Some bottom paint is water-activated. It needs water to properly function. Once a new coat of fluxing paint has been applied, you have about 30 days before you must put the boat back in the water. If you wait longer than this, your paint will be ruined and you'll have to sand it all off and apply another coat or two. It's also interesting to note that once the boat has been put back into the water, she can only be hauled out for about 72 hours before the anti-fouling bottom paint goes bad.
This is why Miss Tootie Boat Works recommends using VC Offshore bottom paint. An extremely hard bottom paint, VC Offshore does not "go dead" either in or out of the water. This means you have no time limitations. This paint will also last longer as it is non-porous.

Often boat owners make an enormous effort to make sure that the topside of their boat glistens in the sunlight. Yet the paint that protects the underwater portion of their boat's hull is scarcely given any thought.
This flip-flop of priorities can cause short term problems including poor adhesion of antifouling paint, and poor performance. More importantly, are the long term effects that water has on fiber reinforced plastic (FRP), gel-kote and fiberglass construction.
In some ways, bottom work is a little like a visit to the dentist....
A tolerable cleaning means that
bottom paint is applied to a hull that is in
"like new" condition.
A painful root canal means that
the bottom has a full blown case of blisters.
To a large extent, the scope of your commitment goes hand-in- hand with the condition of the gelcoat below the waterline. So, make sure yours is always in the best condition possible by taking care of your boat's bottom!
